Question: Can I fix a left turn signal that blows fuses?

My 2004 Toyota Corolla recently started blowing the 10A fuse whenever I turn on the left signal (turning on the Hazard flasher blows the fuse as well.)

I bought a Chilton's repair manual, that suggests that the problem could be with the flasher relay or a faulty switch. Another possibility is the presence of a short in the turn signal circuit.

I will like to remove the flasher relay, but I have no idea how that is done. What are the steps for replacing a relay (assuming that is the culprit?)

Any troubleshooting suggestions would be appreciated!

Remove both left turn signal bulbs and check the sockets and connectors for any issues. That is the most likely place you'll find a problem. With both bulbs removed the circuit should be incomplete. If it still blows the fuse then you have a short before the circuits separate. If not you can then install one bulb and check again. Then the next, if necessary, to located the circuit which has a fault.

The relay should not cause your issue, as it is used for both left, right, and hazards. In other words you would have a problem with more than just your left signal.

A faulty switch is possible, however unlikely.

My bet is that you will find a problem at the bulb socket or connector.

The alarm system and the clock is out on my 1999 toyota solora, i just had to replace the fuse for the blinker lights on my car, but i am not sure where the fuse for the clock and the alarm is
