Question: Musty smell when turning on the fan and/or a/c.

Hi,

For a couple of months now, I am getting a musty smell when I turn on the fan and a/c. If the AC is turned on, then the musty smell goes away after a few seconds. If it is only the fan, the smell remains but gradually goes away. I had a local mechanic attach some type of flushing system to the evaporator and treat it. The mechanic said he did it twice. It helped kind of for a while and now the smell is back. I have been trying to use Lysol and that helps but for a short duration only.

I did confirm that the drain plug is not blocked. I am able to see water dripping out after using the a/c and the car is brought to a stop.

I was wondering what is the next thing to do and how much that would cost.

Any help and advice is appreciated

Regards,
Sainath

Did you ever replace the cabin filter? Take it out and see if there is an odor on it. If it is dirty, replace it with a new one.
